Christmas in Lapa

In celebration of Lapa and all the Friday nights we have spent here partying, we, the travelers who currently are living in Rio and working at Books, have decided to raise funds to provide the homeless people in Lapa, who are not invisible to us, a Merry Christmas.
Lapa is a place where we see a lot of homeless people every day. There is a massive drug and alcohol abuse problem in this area. Behind the glamour of the bohemian lifestyle, we often see people that live here without any structure, begging, collecting cans and trying to make a living from what others don’t want anymore. They are invisible most of time and that is the obstacle we want to tackle. We want to make them feel like they exist.
Why? We want to establish a stronger relationship between travelers and the people from Rio, removing the social barriers between them and ultimately connecting them to the problems the city faces in day to day life.
How? By providing the homeless who suffer all kinds of prejudice and problems a Merry Christmas. Our mission is to include the travelers from all around Rio in this day, working together to deliver the people with not only a delicious Christmas meal and daily essentials, but a happy face of love and care.
What? On a day close to Christmas we will organize an event at the Lapa Arches where we will finally deliver our Christmas meal, music and a care pack of some daily essentials. (Soap, tooth paste and brush, a razor, shampoo, deodrant and a general first aid kit).
With the help of your generous donations we aim to create a loving, happy and merry christmas to the people of Lapa.
All the money raised in this campaign will be put back into the community organizing a Christmas day by the Lapa Arches where we will have music and food and will provide them with the kits we have mentioned above.
