Christina's Sledge Travel Fund
Donation protected
My name is Christina Picton and for the last 11 years I've been playing sledge hockey. I was born with a deficiency that affected the growth of both my legs. I've gone through multiple surgeries including the amputation of my lower right limb. Sledge hockey has been an amazing influence in my life. It motivates me to stay in shape and be healthy. It's developed me as a leader and as a confident young woman. I've been fortunate enough to play the sport I love at the local, provincial and now the national level.
The Canadian Women's Sledge Hockey team has represented Canada in women's sledge hockey for the past 8 years, I've been apart of the team for the past 5 years. We are not funded or carded by any government program or Hockey Canada. Our program has sustained itself purely on athletes and volunteers paying their own way as well as donations. We have been working hard to achieve our goal of making Women's Sledge Hockey a Paralympic medal sport and we are well on our way to getting there! Since our program has expanded over the years the opportunity to travel and train has increased - and with that so have the costs. I've been covering all the costs myself so far.
I'm pushing my ego aside and asking for any donations people are willing to give. Our sport is predicted to be a demo sport in 2018 and a medal sport for the Payalympics in 2022! These are such exciting opportunities for our team, I don't want to miss out! Any donation, big or small would be appreciated, to help cover my travel expenses and help Canada earn it's GOLD in Women's Sledge Hockey!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and consider helping me out.
