Choose Joy(ce) Adoption!

In 2014, I sold my Houston home & moved to Uganda, Africa to help a village of indigenous Batwa pygmies who were suffering terribly after having been forcibly evicted from their forest homeland to create Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. I founded RedemptionSongFoundation.org and worked "slowly by slowly" to help, but little did I know God had even better plans for me and an incredible little girl, a "double orphan" (both parents dead, since she was 3) named Joyce, from the village I work with.

Joyce's village has rampant alcoholism, HIV infection and violence. Batwa are heavily discriminated against. She also was struggling - failing all subjects in 4th grade until I started tutoring her, then homeschooling her. 60% of the single females in her village have HIV, and her future was anything but bright. Now this little girl has me, and I have her - she is truly the most amazing child, full of joy, music and personality.

After much prayer and thought, I felt God made it clear I was to become her mom. We sought permission from her grandfather, and the village.

I finalized the Uganda end of the adoption last year, and now have to complete the US process. Adoption is expensive no matter which way you slice it, but because I am a single mom, and for 3 years, I largely gave up a thriving journalism career to run Redemption Song Foundation, I have lived with little income for coming on 3 years now. I realize some people criticize like adoption fund-raisers but I believe our situation is unique. I have a Master's degree (2 actually) & will have no problem supporting ourselves once I can finalize things.

We need to raise funds for the upcoming US immigration/adoption paperwork, legal fees (if needed), transport costs, and some basic living expenses for the interim. Thank you for considering helping us!

She is the light of my life, and it's a true joy to adopt this little girl. I know that adoption is near and dear to God's heart, as I am a Christian. "God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure." Ephesians 1:5
