Chatteris War Memorial Flags
Donation protected
Sometime overnight on Saturday March 10th & early morning Sunday March 11th 2018, two flags were stolen from the flag poles behind the Chatteris War Memorial. One Union flag & one St Georges Cross. The halyards appear to have been burnt through to get the flags down from the poles. This is not only theft & vandalism, but also desecration of a listed monument, that honours the sacrifice made by the men of Chatteris during two world wars. These flags are frequently used to commemorate these men on the centenary of their death, other Remembrance occasions & also during various civic ceremonies. The cost to replace these flags & halyards cannot be taken from charitable funds of the local Royal British Legion. We would like to raise money to replace these flags & halyards & if there are enough funds, look at possible ways to prevent this from reoccurring. Any funds that are above and beyond what is required, will be put towards the future maintenance of the War Memorial. Any amount you can donate would be appreciated. Thank you.
