Support Women Refugees Facing ICE Raids
Hi, my name is Savannah Isom, and I’m raising money to support women refugees who are living in fear due to the recent increase in ICE raids across the country.

Many of these women have already endured unimaginable hardships; for example, fleeing violence, political unrest, or persecution in their home countries in search of safety and a better life. Now, they are being targeted once again. These ICE raids are tearing families apart and forcing women and children into hiding, often without access to food, shelter, legal aid, or basic healthcare.

This fundraiser is about standing in solidarity. Your donation will directly support:

Emergency housing for women and children who need to relocate quickly

Legal assistance to help them fight deportation and gain asylum

Food, clothing, and hygiene supplies

Mental health resources and trauma support

Transportation to legal or medical appointments

We cannot look away as our neighbors suffer. No one deserves to live in fear, especially not women who have already risked everything to find safety.

It’s hard to forget what she said: “War taught me to be the pillar of the house… the foundation and the head of the family.”

This was shared by an anonymous woman in the Voices of Sudan series. It captures the resilience, strength, and heartbreak that so many refugee women experience. When I think about this woman, she could be my friend, my sister, my cousin, or my neighbor.

Since April 2023, conflict in Sudan has displaced over 11 million people, with more than 2 million fleeing the country. The country of Chad now shelters over a million Sudanese refugees.

The EmpowHer Initiative was created to support the Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC) and its mission to protect displaced women and children.

Founded in 1989 and independent since 2014, WRC champions the rights of displaced women, youth, and children. In 2023, it raised $11.6 million—99.2% from donations—and invested nearly $9 million in programs for education, reproductive health, financial aid, and protection for vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities, LGBTQI individuals, and adolescent girls. Partnering with organizations like the Gates and Packard Foundations, WRC improves crisis health responses. Their work remains vital, as 70% of women in emergencies face gender-based violence.
