Breaking the Cycle of Poverty through Education
The Take Stock in Children (TSIC) program provides mentors, advocates, and donors opportunities to break the cycle of poverty through education. TSIC is an effective solution to a serious problem facing every community in Florida and has been proven successful in bettering the lives of disadvantaged youth. Investing in post-secondary preparedness for deserving low-income and at-risk students ensures we are developing more college graduates, community leaders, and entrepreneurs.
The Broward County program has served 1,872 students and awarded nearly $16.6 million in scholarships 1998. The program has over 200 volunteer mentors who meet with the students 30-60 minutes every week at Broward Schools. Mentors give the support and guidance to our students so that they can build productive and meaningful lives. Their encouragement and support has a tremendous impact!
