The Islamic Society of Boston University is proud to host Sudan’s Story: A Night of Awareness & Tradition, a charity event dedicated to raising funds for the Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA). SAPA is tirelessly working to provide medical aid, support displaced communities, and assist those impacted by the ongoing crisis in Sudan.

In Sudan, hunger is an urgent crisis. Ongoing conflicts, economic hardships, and climate impacts have left many without access to regular, nutritious meals. Families are struggling to feed their children, and the most vulnerable are bearing the brunt of this crisis.

We’re partnering with local soup kitchens to provide warm, nutritious meals to those in need. These soup kitchens are a lifeline for thousands, offering comfort and essential nutrition with meals like lentil soup, bread, fava beans, and fresh oranges. In Sudan, even small donations can go a long way. Just 50 cents can cover a simple meal, and less than a dollar can provide someone with a wholesome meal of lentils or fava beans with bread and fruit.

• $1 provides a meal with bread, fava beans, and fresh fruit.

• $10 supplies a week’s worth of meals to a family.

I want to spend my birthday showing support to my country that, without its existence and its people, I would not be who I am today. Help me support Sudan, a beautiful country with beautiful souls who are rooted in generosity, acceptance, love, and beauty. This country and its people are my blood and organs.

As Reina and I prepare to embark on the beautiful journey of marriage, we find ourselves reflecting on the blessings in our lives.

In a world that has proven recently to be extremely unjust, we feel incredibly fortunate to be able to celebrate our union especially during these times.

However, amidst our joy, our hearts are heavy with the situation in Sudan. The suffering endured there fills us with sadness and leaves us troubled. It's in moments like these that we realize the true importance of solidarity and support.

Sudan is in need of all of our help now.

A year ago, we founded the KhartouMap initiative to kick-start a much-needed transformation of public transportation in Sudan. Now, Sudan is in need of our help in ways that extend far beyond that purpose. A deadly conflict has broken out (April 15th, 2023) between the Sudanese army and a paramilitary group, killing hundreds in the crossfire, with thousands wounded, and widespread destruction and chaos spread throughout our beloved city and country.

The situation is very bleak, and threatens to only get worse. People are in dire need for medical supplies, food, shelter, and vital aid. To support in whatever way we can at this time, we’re raising funds to support the ongoing efforts of the Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA) who are relentlessly providing front-line support to Sudanese people on the ground. The KhartouMap team will match the first $10,000 in donations to magnify the impact of our community.

Charity of The Month is a Baruch MSA fundraising initiative to raise money and awareness for the struggles our brothers and sisters are facing around the world.

In the wake of recent conflicts in Sudan, this month's charity of the month is the Sudanese American Physicians Association.

SAPA contributes to funding and operating hospitals and healthcare for Sudanese citizens. During the conflicts, hospitals have been targeted and people hurt in clashes between the RSF and Sudanese Military are left without treatment.
