Help, Heal, and Inspire Early Learners
Who We are: Serving Kids Hope (SKH) is a nonprofit located in Orange County. SKH's mission is to promote healthy lifestyles in children, families, and communities by addressing medical, nutritional, social, economic, and behavioral issues in a comprehensive, compassionate, and empowering manner. We are driven to mitigate the long-term effects of obesity and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on the future health of all children with attention to those with racial barriers, those in poverty, and those with special needs. At SKH, we believe that every child deserves a healthy future.
In a response to the pandemic’s detrimental impact on early learners, SKH has partnered with Dr. Riba’s Health Club, PBS SoCal, Alkarma TV, KLCS, and local school districts to create and disseminate Dr. Patricia’s Health Club: Being Healthy from A to Z (DrPHC).

Why We Need Your Help: When the pandemic hit, Dr. Patricia and her community-based team began reaching families through telemedicine. Telemedicine gave her an unprecedented window into her patients' lives, and a realistic look at gaps in resources for their needs. One recurrent theme was the inadequacies of At-Home Learning: especially for children who were early learners, English learners, special needs, and living in poverty.
She and her team (with nearly 20 years of experience in treating and preventing nutrition-related issues including obesity) set out to develop At-Home Learning content for parents and schools with special-attention to include vital messaging to support children with obesity and ACE’s.
This inspired the innovative program called, DrPHC. DrPHC was created to fortify the foundation for early learners whose learning and health fundamentals had been disrupted by the Pandemic.
-inspiring health, mindfulness, good nutrition, exercise, play, sleep, family connectedness, and reading/literacy.
-fostering social-emotional awareness
-promoting the development of healthy coping mechanisms, and a healthy relationship with food
-curbing screen time
We have already had the opportunity with PBS SoCal to air this content as public service announcements (PSAs) starting September 4, 2020, for roughly ten weeks. These PSAs have delivered 750,000 impressions thus far.
Because of the overwhelming need to roll out more of this content, KLCS has agreed to make us part of their at-home learning initiative. They have offered post-production editing and airing of a pilot season for 30-minute shows. Amazing music for the show has been created by Stan Frazier (a majority songwriter, founding member, and former drummer of Sugar Ray with his songwriting partner Lewis Richards. Our goal is to gain the capital to complete all 26 letters of the alphabet in this pilot series. We ask you to please join us in our efforts to bring this impactful At-Home Learning to families. Content will also be made available online via YouTube, the DrPHC website, and access will be available to anyone in need.
How Your Donation Helps: Your donation will allow us to expediently build sets, create quality puppets, and film a full season of DrPHC: Being Healthy from A-Z. Where Dr. Patricia and her feathery friends inspire children to use the letters of the alphabet to become more healthy in a magical, California inspired setting called Kookamakaluka. This content will support children, parents, and schools via school programming, public broadcasting, and web-based resources during the 2020-2021 school year. Please help us reach our goal of $100,000.
1st Goal: $25,000 to build sets, create quality playful puppets, colorful animation, and fun music for our interactive live action pilot.
