NE Celebrates Public Health Thank You Day
For many years, but unbeknownst to us until today, the Monday before Thanksgiving has marked Public Health Thank You Day. Never before have local health departments in Nebraska deserved more of our "thanks" than in 2020. What better way to show our gratitude than to offer them a meal? (and if we are successful, a few meals?) The meals we buy with funds raised here will also support our locally-owned restaurants and bars that are uniquely impacted by the DHM and struggling as they try to balance between the need to stay open safely and their need for income to support their families and the families of their workers.
We are setting out to raise $15,000... enough to provide all staff at Nebraska's local health departments with meals-of-gratitude purchased at local restaurants starting next Monday, November 23.
We are partnering with the Nebraska Association of Local Health Directors (NALHD) to manage the funds raised and make sure they are used to help us make Public Health Thank You Day 2020 one that both local health departments and local restaurants remember as an occasion where hundreds (thousands?) of Nebraskans stepped up to show them how much they value their efforts and sacrifices to keep everyone healthy and safe during these difficult and strange times.
