In an Emergency Hay crisis for the Rescues Animals
I'm Jessica, the Facility Director of Illinois Horse Rescue of Will County, and I’m going to be very honest and not pretend that everything is okay. The number of calls that the Illinois Horse Rescue of Will County receives about abused, neglected, and starved animals each year is astounding. We need you to help us help these animals. Winter quickly approached, and we do not have enough hay to feed our current rescue animals, let alone have extra stocked for any rescues we need to take in during these frigid temperatures when grass is frozen under layers of ice and snow.
We used to have access to 45 acres of hay fields to cut and bale for our animals. Due to donors selling their land and moving we lost 35 acres of hay field. The new owners were uninterested in donating us the land for us to farm for hay. The past few years we only had 10 acres, but with hay donations for supporters we were able to make it till spring. This year because of the weather our first cutting was half of what we got last year, and we lost our third cutting to rain. Currently we still need 1,000 bales of hay to keep the rescue animals well fed until spring. Hay prices are steadily rising as we get more into winter. We need to purchase all our hay before prices rise any further. Currently at $6 per bale, we need to raise $6,000.
The $6,000 we need in hay is in addition to our other daily expenses including grain, basic and emergency veterinary care, de-worming medications, hoof trimming, utility bills, and so much more.
We are begging you for your financial blessing to help us continue saving these once abused, neglected, or unwanted animals. We are in a crisis right now.
