Los Angeles has one of the highest homeless and housing-insecure populations in the country. Families living paycheck to paycheck are just one emergency away from losing their homes. The rent is too high, wages haven’t kept up, and affordable housing is nearly impossible to find.

Meanwhile, children are doing their homework in shelters. Parents are choosing between food and rent. Entire families are being pushed onto the streets every single day.

The recent LA wildfires have made things even worse—destroying homes, displacing families, and increasing rent prices for those already struggling to stay housed. The need for affordable, permanent housing has never been greater.

What We’re Aiming For

Our goal is to raise $10,000 dollars—enough to fund key materials for multiple Habitat for Humanity home builds in Los Angeles.

That means more doors that lock, windows that bring in light, and walls that keep families safe. Since 1990, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles has built over 1,000 homes, creating stability, dignity, and a fresh start for families who need it most.

But there’s more work to do.

Helix Electric LA Fire Response - Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles

Nothing is more important to our sense of safety and belonging than being able to have a place to call home. Losing that in the blink of an eye to the ravages of a wildfire is devastating.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) has a long history of helping vulnerable households after a disaster, including rebuilding 120 homes after the recent Woolsey and Creek fires. In response to the 2025 LA fires, Habitat LA is launching ReBUILD LA®, a long-term emergency response campaign, to assist those affected to rebuild their homes, relocate to other housing, provide essential supplies, and restore their lives.

Habitat LA’s efficient and transparent use of donations means that every dollar you contribute goes directly to helping the people of Los Angeles rebuild their homes and lives after this tragic event.

Helix Helping Hands has partnered with Habitat LA in the past and we look forward to supporting their work again.

We are reaching out on behalf of Beta Theta Pi, a fraternity dedicated to brotherhood, leadership, and service, and Alpha Phi Omega, a fraternity dedicated to leadership, friendship, and service. As many of you know, members of our houses and beloved community, as well as many people across Southern California, have been deeply affected by the devastating Palisades wildfires. Homes have been lost, families displaced, and the environment has suffered catastrophic damage. In this time of need, we are launching this GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to assist in the recovery efforts for those impacted by the fires.

Why We’re Fundraising:

1. Immediate Relief: Our primary focus is to provide immediate relief to families who have lost everything. Funds raised will go directly to purchasing essential supplies such as food, clothing, hygiene products, and temporary housing assistance.

2. Beyond immediate relief, we want to support long-term recovery efforts. This includes funding for rebuilding homes, restoring local businesses, and revitalizing our community spaces that have been damaged or destroyed.

3. Community Partnerships: We believe in the power of collaboration. While across the country, we are working with organizations based in the greater Los Angeles area to ensure our donations help as many people displaced from the fires and fire relief efforts as possible.

Hello there!

I am Tarun, and I run a local organization out of Dublin, California that supports student-athletes as well as the student population in general. Recently, the fires in LA (such as the Palisades and Eaton fires) have taken a large number of homes and resources away from the local people, and this includes families and students. Therefore, we as an organization have decided to raise funds for those affected by these fires, as help in any way can really go a long way.

City of Torrance employee Torrance Transit Equipment Attendant Simmons and his high school football teammate will be participating in the North Olympic Discovery Marathon to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. As an added incentive, the funds raised from March 31, 2025 to June 2, 2025 will be matched by Equipment Attendant Simmons and his high school teammate up to $1,500. They are doing this because, like most Angelenos, they were empathetic towards their neighbors' losses due to the Eaton and Palisades fires. All proceeds will be sent to the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. Thank you for your support!

Our names are Mehul Biala and Mehul Verma, and we’re high school students—a freshman and a junior—who are deeply moved by the devastating impact of the recent wildfires in Los Angeles.
