URGENT APPEAL
Shri Ganesha Gayathri temple is in an urgent need for funds to complete a construction phase mandated by the City of Lockport, IL (sister city of Homer Glen, IL) to continue temple activities! The city authorities require that we complete the 2019 planned construction. Our immediate requirement for funds is $100,000 by August 1st, 2019.
The Temple has a sufficiently large piece of land to construct a beautiful and viable temple complex! We have commenced construction and are yet to complete it. Located in the City of Lockport, Illinois (sister city of Homer Glen, IL) on a beautiful and picturesque land of 5 acres, the Shri Ganesha Gayathri Temple is the first temple in North America with Shri Gayathri Maatha as the main deity. The Vedas are the bedrock of all righteous (Dharmic) deeds, which in turn nourish a strong society, and rich values of Sanatana Dharma. Shri Gayathri Maatha is considered the mother of Vedas and has given us the Gayathri Mantra.
The beautiful Vigrahas are currently housed in a house styled temple. We strongly appeal to all devotees to help us achieve our objective of constructing a final temple structure is to give our Vigrahas (deities) a place that they truly deserve.
Along with Shri Ganesha and Shri Gayathri Maatha, we have vigrahas of Sri Kamakshi with the Shree Chakra, Sri Ekambareswarar, Sri Somaskandar and Sri Adhi Shankaracharya with His four disciples.
Sri Kamakshi is a replica of the vigraham in Sri Kanchi Kamakshi temple at Kanchipuram. Sri Ekambareswarar is Banalingam of 42” height that meets the strict specifications from the Narmada river at Sri Omkareswara temple, one of the Jyotirlingams. Sri Somaskandar is the vigraham of Saha Uma Skandar, meaning, Lord Shiva with Uma and Skanda. Along with these deities, the uniqueness of Sri Ganesha Gayathri temple is the presence of Guru Sri Adhi Shankaracharya with his four disciples.
Some details on the temple and construction are below -
- The first part of constructing a temple building is to lay the necessary infrastructure on the owned land (like water lines, landscaping, parking areas, underground chamber made of concrete, fiberglass, or plastic for domestic wastewater. etc.), which we are doing in phases. Last year we constructed a chamber for wastewater. This year, among other improvements we are connecting to the city’s water supply!
- We performed Navagraha and Dhanvanthari Homam in February 2019, organized a Carnatic music concert by Padmabhushan Smt. Sudha Raghunathan in April 2019, and conducted Gau Pooja along with a Grishma Mela in June 2019.
- We are also having a Saamohika Satyanarayana Pooja in July 2019 and Ganeshotsav in September 2019.
- We have Temple classes that teach kids Vishnu Sahasranamam, Lalitha Sahasranamam, Ramayanam, Hanuman Chalisa, Sanatana Dharmam, Slokas, Stotrams and Sangeetham. We plan to start Sanskrit classes in September 2019.
URGENT APPEAL
We strongly appeal to all devotees to help us achieve our goal of a final temple structure to give the deities a place that they truly deserve.
Donations of any amount are welcome. We are also looking for long term loans (which will be repaid by the temple). By 2026 we plan to raise a projected amount of US$ 707,000. Our short-term goal is to reach 100,000 by August 1st 2019.
