Help Rebuild the Walkway at the Doubling Point Lighthouse
During Maine Lighthouse Day in 2023, the historic, arched walkway at the Doubling Point Lighthouse collapsed. Because of this, the lighthouse is closed to the public. We need your help to raise the necessary funds to rebuild the 130-foot-long walkway leading to this cherished lighthouse.
Friends of the Doubling Point Light (FDPL) was founded in 1998 under the Maine Lights Program to provide stewardship of the Doubling Point Light located in Arrowsic, Maine. FDPL is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. While the United States Coast Guard is operationally responsible for the lighthouse lens and batteries, FDPL funds all maintenance to the lighthouse structure, walkway, catwalks, and public parking spaces.
For twenty-six years FDPL has successfully raised the funds needed to cover operational and project needs for the lighthouse, including the crucial tower foundation restoration that was successfully completed in 1999/2000.
Now, FDPL depends on your generosity to help fund this urgent, one-time, substantial financial need. All funds raised through this go-fund-me charity account will go directly toward rebuilding the majestic walkway at Doubling Point Lighthouse. Please support our cause by donating through this page. Alternatively, to maximize your contribution, send a check to Friends of the
Doubling Point Light / PO Box 225 / Bath, Maine 04530, or visit our website at www.doublingpoint.org
More about our project:
FDPL is diligently working to complete this extensive walkway construction project. Only then can public visits to the popular Doubling Point Lighthouse resume. To this end, we have certified engineered plans in hand that will ensure the safety and longevity of the new walkway well into the future. Importantly, the new walkway design upgrades integrate improved structural strength to withstand changing water levels and environmental conditions, while also meeting the Maine Historic Preservation Commission’s emphasis and guidelines on historical accuracy.
We have secured bids from several marine contractors and our estimated cost to rebuild is a staggering $500,000. Due to personal donations and grant opportunities this year, our go fund me goal is 375,000. Please help us succeed by giving what you can. Big or small, we appreciate every donation. Thank you!
