On Wednesday, August 26, 2020, an unexpected and tragic flash flood took place in Afghanistan's 6 provinces. This resulted in the death of over 150 people (mostly women and children), injuring over 200 people, and many more are still missing. The flood not only killed several people, but also destroyed homes, buildings, and personal belongings. Officials have stated more than 2,000 homes have been destroyed. People affected by this tragedy were mostly farmers and informal workers who were already struggling financially. Countless men, women, and children have been displaced from their homes. Hand to Hand Sadaqah Group has partnered with The Children of War in an attempt to raise $10,000. Our goal is to help the displaced families in the affected 6 provinces of Afghanistan, primarily in Safali, Kapisa.
We have a trusted partner in Afghanistan, who will personally go to these affected areas and assess the needs of the victims. From here, she will record their names and contact information so that we can individualize necessities for every family according to their needs. For instance, most homes need anti-wet floor foam because of the water damage, this costs about $16.00. Our team will also be working on rebuilding some of the fallen walls and structures, while providing attention towards others urgent needs such as food supplies and cooking equipment. We intend to provide baking gas ovens for households that request cooking equipment. These ovens cost about $32.00. All families affected by the flood request food supplies and we intend to provide flour, rice, bean, cooking oil, macaroni, spices etc. In addition, some need blankets, mattresses (toshak), pillows, floor coverings, simple carpet, clothing, etc; other needs are to be discovered per family after conducting an assessment of each family.
Our people are in desperate need of shelter, food, basic health maintenance, and etc. We are in constant conversation with the affected community and will be getting weekly updates. We understand the difficult times due to COVID-19, but anything helps. We are reaching out to our community to gain financial assistance for those who are currently struggling to live their day to day life without adequate supplies. If you are unable to donate, all we ask is for you to share this so that word can spread. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
