Help Build a Well for a Community: Bike Fundraiser

Setting out on a bike ride across the continental United States—Washington DC to the Pacific Cost of Washington State— This trip is taking place June-August.

Millions of people worldwide don’t have easy access to clean drinking water. In some of the areas this charity aims to help, families walk miles every day just to collect water that is often contaminated. We believe that clean water is a basic human right, and this charity seems to be efficient and makes a  difference.

We are hoping this trip can inspire people to help support charity: water to fund the construction of a sustainable, clean-water well in a community that needs it. The cost to build a well typically ranges between $10,000 and $15,000. Our goal is to help fund the building of a portion of a well.

Help Bring Clean Water to Those Who Need It Most

Imagine waking up every morning and having to walk miles just to collect water — not clean, filtered water, but muddy water from a distant stream.

For nearly 1 in 10 people around the world, that’s a daily reality.

We are a group of 4 professionals from different countries and as part of our postgraduate work with Harvard Extension School, we are supporting Charity: Water, a nonprofit organization that brings clean, safe drinking water to people in developing countries.

This cause matters deeply to us — not just as students, but as human beings. Access to clean water transforms lives. It means fewer illnesses, more time in school, more opportunity for women, and stronger, more resilient communities.

Through this project, we are raising funds to support charity: water’s work building wells, filtration systems, and sustainable water projects in communities where water is dangerously scarce. 100% of donations go directly to water projects — charity: water's unique funding model means overhead costs are covered by private donors, so every dollar you give changes lives.

Why Water?

Health: Access to clean water prevents deadly diseases like cholera and dysentery.

Education: Children, especially girls, can attend school instead of spending hours walking for water.

It says it clear: I want to take a step towards reducing and eventually ceasing the water crisis.

Having family from a third-world country, there's rarely discussion of our country without the worsening side of issues. Issues that not everyone faces, and those that many cannot overcome. Not without support.

Basic needs like food and shelter shouldn't depend on where you live, and especially water, coming directly from the very soil we plant and eat from. Though I'm one person, a larger impact can be set with all of us.

In all of communities, drinking water can be funded and provided, no matter the situation. And many families out there, including my own will be thankful for any support you can give.

It's not now or never, but there's never a more important time.

Hiiii! My name is Paige and I will be fundraising to help get clean water to everyone on earth! My church, The Belonging, brought Scott Harrison, the founder of Charity: Water, in to share his testimony this morning. I felt an extra tug on my heart during the service to raise money for this charity! I’m running my first marathon in 6 short weeks, and so decided to combine these two efforts. I want to focus the rest of my training for raising money to support clean water in Africa!! 100% of what is raised will be given to Charity: Water and 100% of that money will directly fund clean water projects! I would love if you came along side me to help raise $2602 (for running 26.2 miles) for children, families, and communities that have no access to clean water!!

We often take the simplest necessities of life for granted. Although this is a relatively simple act, building a well can be incredibly life-changing for communities without any access to a water supply, and the rewards for your contribution shall continue for as long as others are benefitting from it. A truly impactful type of sadaqah jariyah.

Raffana Atiq, a beloved member of the Huntsville community, was a friend to everyone she met. Her kind and warm demeanor readily put anyone she encountered at ease. She had a particular affection towards children and children in turn loved her very much. Raffana was also an active member of the Huntsville Islamic Center and readily served in many capacities. Recently, Raffana passed away of breast cancer at only 34 years of age. She leaves a huge gap behind in the community and those that were blessed to know her miss her profoundly. We are seeking to build a well in her honor and we hope that you consider donating generously.
