About Me:

Hello! My name is Sherinda Bryant, Founder and CEO of C.R.L.S, LLC (Culturally Restorative Learning Supports). I am an educator with 12 years high school experience and now create restorative courses and curriculum for orgs and families through our Afrofuturism Discovery Academy.

The CRLS Vision:

The vision of CRLS is to create a world where students, enriched by a deep understanding of diverse cultural values, become advocates, allies, and leaders. The focus extends beyond academic learning to individual self-discovery, emotional resilience, and cultural restoration, viewing education as a multifaceted tool for self-actualization.

Over the last decade, I’ve spent a lot of time learning from different community members in San Mateo County as well as educating and advocating for many young people. There’s a lot of wisdom and stories (some unheard) in this county. There's also some pain. However, I believe strongly in the power of collaborative thought and radical imagination as a healing method.

My CRLS team is also passionate about building platforms for complex dialogues and design thinking. We built this series for our community to come together, unpack the layered impact of anti-Blackness in schools and design tangible solutions with our different lenses of expertise. Our youth are crying out and we must respond, listen and act.

More about the series:

During this 5 part educational and design thinking series, CRLS will use community dialogue methods: Storytelling, group discussions, facilitated discussions, solution-building to bring different groups together to move toward advocacy.

Outcome Goals:

By the end of May 2024, the series aims to:

-Establish small groups of community members piloting solutions

-Empower the Black community with design thinking skills

-Develop ways to use social media to carry messages/raise awareness

-Develop a framework for yearly updates

-Establish an ongoing network of Black student advocacy

-Connect families and graduates to professionals and community services

Our Audience:

Parents, students, local community orgs and city officials who are invested in working with others and creating changes for Black youth in San Mateo County.

How will we use the funding:

Our fiscal sponsor, Belle Haven Action, will be collecting donations for the following:

-Materials and educational/design thinking curriculum for each session

-To pay for a trained facilitator and coach

-Event catering

-Project Management and marketing fees

-Seed money to invest in the launch of some community ideas

-Speaker stipends
