As a husband and father of two daughters, I had the privilege of witnessing their growth and development. But my heart aches when I think about the countless girls in rural Ghana who are denied the same opportunities. In Ghana, 9 out 10 girls miss school during their period due to a lack of sanitary pads. Adolescent girls use unhygienic materials such as Old Cloth, Cotton Wool, Toilet Rolls, Rags, Newspapers, Leaves, among others to maintain their monthly flow. Volta Pads is affordable and will address situations where women in Ghana use 13.2 percent of their minimum wage to buy sanitary pads every month. The worse part of period poverty is that most parents in rural areas are unemployed making it difficult for them to afford sanitary Pads. Volta Pads also address situations where girls use rags and other unhygienic materials every month for their menstruation.

I believe we can change this narrative! Every girl deserves access to quality education, and sanitary pads are not a luxury, but a basic human right. That's why I'm dedicating my Birthday which is on the 7th of June to making a difference with the donation of Volta Pads, the First Reusable Sanitary Pads certified by Ghana Standard Authority in 2023 to support 500 students in Junior High Schools.

My goal is to provide girls in Grade 6 (11years old) to Grade 9 (14years old) with Volta Pads to empower a student girl for 24 months in Adaklu and Agotime-Ziope District, in the Volta Region of Ghana. This small amount will change a girl's life, keeping her in school, building her confidence, and breaking the cycle of poverty.

Your $5 donation will be a beacon of hope for these girls. It will tell them that they matter, that their education matters, Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3 ) and that they deserve to live with dignity.

Schistosomiasis, also known as bilharzia, is a disease caused by parasitic worms that infect freshwater sources in Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and Southeast Asia. The adult worms migrate through the body via blood vessels and can live there anywhere from 5-45 years. The worms release eggs that make their way to various organs causing abdominal pain, an enlarged liver, blood in stool, blood in urine, malnutrition and reduced brain development in children, and increases the risk of bladder cancer, liver fibrosis, HIV and infertility.

Over 200 million people worldwide are infected with schistosomiasis and more than 700 million are at risk of infection. The goal is to diagnose and administer treatment for ~2,000 people across 13 communities with a population of ~5,000 for schistosomiasis in the Afadzato South District of the Volta region of Ghana. The drug of choice is called praziquantel which has been used to treat people in infected communities for more than three decades.

The organizer of this page has successfully coordinated five rounds of treatment for up to 1,700 people since 2018. The catalyst of his involvement in this charitable endeavor was a class trip during spring break at New York University where he saw the firsthand effects of the disease on an affected community that relied on the water from an infected lake for drinking, cleaning, fishing, and farming. All public health efforts have been and continue to be done with the support of local community members, medical personnel, and government agencies.

All donations have a direct impact on improving the health and well-being of people in some of the most vulnerable and impoverished communities on the planet.
