Channell's Study Abroad in Thailand

Hi, all! First off thank you for taking the time out to read my story!

My name is Channell Osorio, I'm from the North End of Bridgeport, Connecticut. 19 years young and graduated from Bullard Havens Technical High School with the learned trade Hairdressing, Barbering, and Cosmetology. As much as I loved to make people beautiful, I knew it wasn't my passion. My passion is to not only work with animals but troubled youth as well. My DREAM is to become an Equine Therapist!
After employment in four different salons my clientele remained small and I just wasn't making enough money to buy necessities and invest in college at the same time. I needed a larger source of income. After some research I came to the conclusion that becoming a Licensced Practitional Nurse was the best fit for me. LPN's make an average of $16/hour and I knew I would enjoy caring for the elderly and the whole nursing experience itself. So I persued to receive my education through a post-secondary college. Unfortuneately, after a month of school I was disembursed for being two points short of a passing grade, being left $13,000 in debt.  I didn't dare think of going back to college if I had to put myself in any more indebtedness. Thanking God I was later accepted into a free education program where they will be sending me out to college  free of charge, everything included. This is perfect, after graduating I'll begin making well over minimum wage and can begin saving for vet school.

The Plan to get into vet school is to first, save up the money needed to attend. Second, successfully obtain an LPN Licencse. Last is to have some type of professional animal volunteer experience. Being an LPN will definitely assist me in saving for college. Having pre-knowledge of the medical field will definately be a plus when applying to vet school. Last, but not least studying abroad in Thailaind working directly with veterinarians and animals is a HUGE plus to any veterinary school admissions committee. This is where my study abroad in Thailand comes in!

Loop Abroad has this AMAZING College Veterinary Service Program with an adventure bonus week where they fly you out to Chiang Mai, Thailaind and have you work alongside veterinarians themselves. I would be doing things such as learning and working in an Elephant Sanctuary and Dog Rescue providing check-ups, and care for dogs in need. We would actually live among the elephants and provide care for them as well as assistance on procedures and surgeries. How cool would it be to care for and nuture elephants?
In the adventure bonus week I would explore all Chiang Mai, Thailand has to offer. Here's a list of some of the activites my group would part take in:
- Discovering Chiang Mai on a guided tour of the ancient walled city
- Spelunking through the ancient Chiang Dao caves by a hand-held gas lantern
- Traveling to the top of Doi Suthep mountain, past hidden jungle temples
- Rafting a jungle river
- Soaring through the jungle thirty times on Thailand’s longest zipline course
Experiencing everything the majestic Thailand has to offer first hand! Having this opportunity would mean so much to me!

Anyone that knows me personally knows that I have a passion for animals that is out of this world! I've always loved animals because their hearts are so pure. It doesn't matter how big or small you are, if you're rich or poor, homeless, have disabilites, or even if you wore your hair differently from everyone else. If you love them they will love you back, and all animals just want to be loved. Becoming an Equine Therapist will not only allow me to work with horses but troubled youth as well. This is my dream because I'll be able to help troubled youth in conjunction with horses. How amazing is that? If I have the opportunity to work for veterinarians who work with different species of animals is a bonus that can make me more appealing to any veterinary school admissions committee. This program is sure to get me into vet school.
The full cost of the program is $8,000. This includes international airfare to and from Chiang Mai, Thailand airport, teaching facilities, accomodations, activities, services, meals, hotel resort stay, spending money, etc. Everything is included in the tuition. I plan on graduating an LPN in March of 2017, hopefully if I have the funds by then I'll be able to attend the service program the same year. My goal is to raise these funds by May of 2017.

With my financial debts over my head I couldn't possibly afford this once in a lifetime opportunity. So I ask kindly of all my family and friends to help me reach my goal by donating anything you have to offer, even $1 helps. I ask that you share my page too maybe I can inspire someone! Each and every donation/share is grandly appreciated and I sincerely Thank You in advance for helping me chase my dream of becoming an Equine Therapist!!

Stay beautiful,
Channell
