Cast It In, Kansas Edition

Donation protected
Hello, everyone. I would like to share a little about why I decided to start the Monofilament Recycling Program in Kansas. In April of 2017, my mom and I were at Lake Shawnee in Topeka, when someone found a snagged American Coot and let us know. Since we care about Wildlife, we had to at least try to rescue it. Fortunately for the Coot, Mom was able to cut the weed it was snagged in and bring it to the bank, where I held it (head covered, of course) to free it. It took some work, but eventually we were able to unhook it and set it free immediately. It swam away without so much as a "Thank You" but it was thank you enough to know we had helped it.
This experience got me thinking about how much fishing line I have seen laying around where animals or humans could get tangled. It can cause serious injury and even death. Mom & I talked about it some more and did some research. I kept saying somebody needs to do something about the problem. Well, I am somebody! I'm young (11 years old) and cannot do it alone. My family and friends are supporting and encouraging me. "Cast It In, Kansas Edition" is a dream and my 4-H Wildlife Project. We are currently looking for Financial Sponsors and Volunteers to assist in building and monitoring bins.
At this time, I would like to raise $750 to purchase materials to build and install the first 10 bins.  You can follow the project's progress on Facebook at  https://www.facebook.com/Cast-It-In-Kansas-Edition-1971598929766519/
