I have the honor of working at a Title 1 Elementary School that is two blocks from my house. The overwhelming majority of our students come from economically disadvantaged homes. I believe that my students deserve the best educational experience we can provide. By supporting this gofundme campaign you will help me purchase a SMARTboard and mobile stand to help my students achieve excellence. I would be able to use this board throughout each school day to improve behaviors, increase learning and provide exciting brain breaks for my students. Thank you so much for considering this opportunity.
Over 60% of my students last school year started the year below grade level for reading. I was able to narrow this percentage over the course of the year but this technology would help me push students even further. I had three students who increased their PALs reading score by THREE levels. I want to achieve that success with more students. This SMARTboard will help me engage students in more ways throughout the school day.
My students grew the most when they knew they were cared for and safe and when they had the right tools in their hands. This is an opportunity for you to stand with these students and say "yes, you are worth it! We believe in you and here are tools to help you grow."
I also have the joy of raising three sons of my own. My oldest (7 years) is gifted and already reading at a middle school level. My youngest son (18 months) is teaching me a ton. He has Down Syndrome and constantly demonstrates that every person has value. My middle son (3 years) is a comedian and daredevil. Parenting three very different young boys has taught me about at least one common theme that I have been able to apply to my work in the classroom...
KIDS LEARN THROUGH PLAY! Really, adults do too. It is all about experience.
So, what exactly are you supporting? I would like to purchase a SMARTboard 4065 Interactive Flat Panel with mobile stand. This SMARTboard has been described as:
"Tomorrow's technology Today. No matter the teaching style or classroom environment, give students the best in collaboration technology. Whether you need a front-of-room display or one for individual and group work, the 4000 series is the future of teaching, learning and collaborating."
My favorite feature of this particular board is that it has the ability to process 8 touch points at the same time. This means that students can truly work together on activities at the same time. I would use this board as one of my daily stations, allowing small groups of students to work together to practice a variety of reading, math, science and social studies skills.
This SMARTboard also comes equipped with SMARTnotebook software. This software provides access to thousands of learning activities. I would aslo have the ability to create my own activites specific to my students strengths and weaknesses.
The SMARTboad 4065 features smartink technology. My students will just be beginning to master letter writing when they start the school year. This technology will allow students to practice their penmenship in a new medium. Exposure to the same skill in a variety of contexts is a proven method of minimizing the learning curve. This board will allow me to expose students to a new context for writing.
Many of my students have few opportunities to travel outside of our neighborhood. I would use the stunning HD capabilities of this SMARTboard to expose my students to rich experiences that are difficult for them to access. We could learn about communities and cultures from around the world. We could travel to rainforests, mountaintops and cities around the world to gain glimpses of different ways of living. This exposure will give my students an opportunity to imagine the possibilities the world has to offer outside of our own neighborhood.
In my classroom, I use a Ninja theme. I hope to help my students draw upon the self-control, discipline and stillness that Ninja's excel at to help my students prepare for life. One way I reward students for good choices is through an online program called ClassDojo (very fitting, right?) This program is most effective when students can easily see the display of how many points they have earned. This SMARTboard would allow me to keep students motivated to make good choices that reflect our motto of "Be Kind, Stay Calm and Work Hard".
I know that this is a big ask. I do not take lightly the granduer of this request. But I do believe that my students deserve this opportunity. I believe that if a lot of people give just a little bit then we can give these students something magical.
