Carter's Journey to New Lungs

Help our family on our journey to a new set of lungs for our 7 week old baby, Carter.
Carter Matthew Kraft was born on June 10, 2017 weighing 6lb 9oz and was 19in long. It was a healthy, full term pregnancy and Matt and Jennifer Kraft were ecstatic to meet their baby boy. After being checked out and scoring a 9 on his Apgar, Carter was just about to be handed to his mama for the first time when the nurses noticed he had some fluid on his lungs. He was taken directly to the NICU for treatment and further observation from there. A little over 24 hours later the decision was made to transfer Carter to the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies, about an hour away from their home in DeLand, FL.
Once Carter arrived at Winnie Palmer he was placed on a ventilator to help him breathe and has been on it ever since. They have made attempts to ween him off but to no avail, his little lungs just have not been able to get working well enough to provide the oxygen his body needs. Because of the type of ventilator that he is on his mama has still not been able to hold him.
The doctors suspected that Carter might have a genetic disorder so they drew blood to send off for testing, after 3 weeks the results came back but they did not give a definitive result. The next move came on July 14, he had a lung biopsy that was sent to a specialist in Minnesota as well as their pathologist at Winnie. Finally on July 27, after 6 weeks of uncertainty, Matt and Jennifer finally got a diagnosis for their baby - Carter has a rare genetic disorder known as ABCA 3 Surfactant Protein Deficiency which prevents his lungs from being able to absorb oxygen. There is no treatment or therapy that is proven to work so Carter will now need a double lung transplant.
Baby Carter has a long road ahead, and he and his parents can use your help! Once Carter weighs enough to be transferred, the family will be relocating to a hospital in either Houston, TX or St. Louis, MO while he awaits a new pair of lungs. All funds donated will help with hospital bills, living expenses, etc. while this sweet family is displaced from their home to save their baby.
