As many of you know.. my architecture journey through Part 1... Part 2.... and now Part 3 is still continuing! Alongside working and studying I have been able to explore other areas of Architecture that I am truly passionate about; teaching architecture and using architecture to help others in need.
Over the past year I have been able to work at Birmingham City University tutoring first year students weekly which has been fantastic. Reflecting on the past year it has made me want to further learn and educate myself in areas of Architecture I am interested in.
Throughout my studies I have been involved in live projects at Sheffield University helping communities, designing through collaborative work, research and workshops. I have had the opportunity of completing a participatory workshop in Venice Summer 2010 and during my masters I was able to complete live research in India understanding urban housing in less developed areas.
I have now been given the opportunity to join a fantastic organisation ASF with supporting their two week workshop in Cape Town in July.
Architecture Sans Frontières – UK (ASF-UK) aims to make community and international development issues integral to the practice and teaching of architecture. Through research, workshops, involving the community in live projects they aim to make architecture relevant to the world's majority - people who are living in poverty.
The workshop will explore a range of sites in Cape Town dealing with inadequate housing conditions, homelessness and the risk of displacement.
The aim is to co-design a set of rental housing typologies which can be adopted by small scale developers and self-builders in order to challenge uneven access to housing and rights in the city.
I am looking to fundraise this opportunity - any amount you are willing to support me on this journey would be incredible :)
I will be completing a total of 20k running races over the next two months to fundraise & bake sales!
