Neighbour to Neighbour  -- Canada to Nepal

Renée, a good friend of mine, was fortunate to meet the members of Pioneer Foundation Nepal, www.pfnepal.org a grassroots organization dedicated to the poor and marginalized children and communities back in October 2014, following an unforgettable trek to Annapurna Base Camp.  They are a small and dedicated team of people people who grew up in impoverished communities, but were lucky enough to obtain an education and become successful professionals.  They are now giving back.

Since the devastating Earthquakes of April - May 2015 the Foundation is focusing its resources in the rural communities of Gorkha - the first epicentre which also happens to be one of the poorest districts in Nepal.  88% of the infrastructure was destroyed including homes, 495 schools, and most community facilities. Many fatalities were also endured.   This is an area that the members of the Pioneer Foundation know very well as many of them call the valley home.

To date Renée and generous Canadian friends, families and neighbours have raised $8,287 to assist the Foundation's first responses (food, medicine, tarps, temporary shelters, school supplies and equipment) and provided continued support to one of their initiatives - Maya's Children’s Home for orphans and abandon children, located in Kathmandu.

Unfortunately, the effects of the Earthquakes are still sorely felt.  The country's development has effectively been set back by 10 years.  The government is struggling to provide the basic necessities.  As a result, the communities are left fending for themselves with little to no resources, but their health, resiliency and innate capacity to be resourceful.

As neighbours, we can help.  Simply, Directly, Effectively.   100% of the proceeds raised will go directly to the Pioneer Foundation - Nepal to support their work:

- re-build some of the 495 schools destroyed

- build a volunteer home

- buy materials and school supplies

- support the 14 children of Maya's Children's Home paying for food, rent, school fees

Nepal has a rich heritage, landscape and spirituality that Canadians have long reveled in and enjoyed.  We can now give back. It’s easy.  Bonus - Our dollar goes a long way in Nepal, our action supports the local economy, we skip the bureaucracy faced by major aid groups and we reach out to places where few go.

Join us, donate and follow the Pioneer Foundation on Facebook. Find out how they invest your donations to benefit the children of Nepal.
