It Takes a Village

Donation protected
When Seth and I found out I was pregnant with Naomi, I was a 21 year old waitress living in my parent’s basement and he was living half way across the country in Texas. Not exactly ideal circumstances, but we were blessed with a massive amount of support-- not just from our family but from our entire community. We feel like things turned out pretty awesome despite our rocky beginning. Why? Maybe because something special happens when people gather around to support vulnerable people, new life, & risky beginnings. Maybe the trajectory of who we are was impacted by people who went out of their way to support us in countless ways in those early years.

I'm sharing this with you because Seth and I have a staff member at Hendershot’s named Megan who is headed into her 6 month of a twin pregnancy (You heard that right: twins!). Megan’s financial situation is a tenuous one: she let Seth know last week that she can only afford to take off one month for maternity leave. One month. With twins. Her due date is June. She is planning to work through April and has asked Seth to put her back on the schedule in July.

Not only is Megan a valued member of the Hendershot’s family, but her situation has struck a chord with us because we started our family under similar, financially difficult circumstances.

This Go Fund Me campaign is intended to give Megan more time for her maternity leave without the burden of how she will meet her basic needs during this time. We want her to have as much peace of mind as possible as she learns to care for her new babies. We want for her to be blessed, as we were, by her community. To have the opportunity to look back and think, “this whole scary thing turned out pretty awesome.”

We understand that some will not be able to make a cash donation but may want to help in another way. Some of you may have items on hand that could be donated or would like to provide a box of diapers or a gift card. If you would like to provide an alternative to a GoFundMe donation please contact me through this GoFundMe site.

Thank you-
