Mexico is suffering after being hit on September 7, 2017, by an 8.1-magnitude earthquake that struck the southwestern states of Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Tabasco, causing nearly 100 deaths. The next day, September 8, 2017, Category 1 Hurricane Katia made landfall on the eastern coast in Veracruz, causing a mudslide that resulted in several deaths. On September 19, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck the state of Puebla, about 75 miles from Mexico City.

The losses are countless, and even though our prayers are with Mexico, we need to take action and donate. Every single dollar counts, please consider helping with anything you have, it could save someone's life.

Regina and I were born and raised in Mexico and most of our families and friends still live there. We have family living in Morelos and Oaxaca that have reached out for help. Specifically for temporary shelter, food and rebuilding their homes and lives!

We will be supporting families and friends in rural communities outside Mexico City (since there's already so many hands and resources there), through grassroots local organizations and people.

I will be responsible for withdrawing the money and using the funds!

Share what you can, we are all one. Let's bloom again!

Dear friends:
We have returned from San Mateo del Mar.
The situation is still quite complicated, as in addition to the problems caused by the earthquake, the rainy season has been very strong and many sections of the municipality are flooded more than usual. This has caused that a great majority of the inhabitants are having fungal infections of their feet and larva migrans cutanea by the same situation. We bought all the meds we could to attack this problem but it was not enough for the seriousness of the situation. Also the rains have complicated the securing of temporary shelters because many sections where they were located had to move because of floods.
This time the work was divided to serve the three areas most affected by the earthquake: the main section of San Mateo del Mar, Colonia San Pablo and La Colonia Juarez. In the first two sites general medical and psychological services were offered by Dr. Balbino Jesus Cano Perez and Anna Johansson. While both Pacific Oasis - Pediatric Mobile Clinic and Jean Francois De Marte served in all three communities. Anja Widmann saw a total of 120 patients, in addition to seeing many cases of fungi, there were many cases diarrheas and some possible cases of Hepatitis A. Jean Francois De Marte gave workshops in the three communities to teach them how to make filters with charcoal and sands using the local materials and we began to define together with the inhabitants some possibilities of designs considering the characteristics of the local environment as well as the spatial distribution of their traditional houses. We also came to the conclusion that it will be necessary to design a temporary shelter of longer duration because the reconstruction process will be more delayed in some places than in others.
For this, in addition to the workshops, there were talks at the Ikoots Community School with the director Rossy Ver and the members of the community who talked about traditional constructions. We also talk at the preschool Vicente Guerero with teacher Betty Gutierrez to better understand the needs of their homes.
We decided to focus our economic support in rebuilding their homes and shelters, and supporting their means to restart their economic needs.
All this work would not have been possible without your support! We're forever grateful! ❤️❤️❤️
