My dearest friend, writing partner, and holistic veterinarian extraordinaire, Jean Hofve DVM, who has helped tens of thousands of cats, dogs, and pet parents over her lifetime, now needs our help.
You probably already know Dr. Jean through her hundreds of published articles, and her highly respected, award-winning website, LittleBigCat.com; and of course, she is my co-author on our books, Holistic Cat Care and Paleo Dog.
Here's the problem: Dr. Jean was born with multiple severe heart defects, which were surgically corrected when she was a young child, as best as 1950s technology could do. However, undetected problems apparently remained; and about 10 years ago she was blindsided with severe congestive heart failure (CHF). Medications seemed to correct this, and we all thought she was doing well (although she now confesses that she suspected her condition was gradually deteriorating for several months—I’m sure we all know that it is often hard for care-givers to take good care of themselves!). After extensive testing, her cardiologist informed her that she was back in full-blown CHF; she was immediately put on several additional medications.
On top of all that, it has been recommended that she have a defibrillator implanted to prevent sudden death. Insurance has fought covering visits to her out-of-network cardiac specialist, even though he is the only doctor in four states that is fully competent to treat her. It is not at all certain that they will cover the costs of the implantation surgery and hospital stay; and of course, she will still need to cover the hefty co-pays herself.
Her doctors and I am very concerned about her, to say the least! However, we have found something that is really helping her right now, and it is called the BEMER. She is using the device presently and feels considerably better; but she only has it on temporary loan. She desperately needs to pay for the device as soon as possible, in order to keep on with this important therapy. She also needs additional holistic therapies that are not covered by insurance, in order to return to full health and function.
Let’s all do what we can to contribute to the health and care of this amazing woman, who has tirelessly worked as one of the best animal advocates that I have ever known.
We need to raise $10,000 to cover the costs that she needs right now to continue with the BEMER and the other protocols so necessary for her to continue to serve our holistic animal community. She wants to attend the next AAFCO (pet food regulators) meeting in South Carolina next month, but is concerned about her ability to travel. Let’s get her nice and strong, in order for her to continue her amazing work and dedicated service to our companion animals and humanity.
