We all can say where we've been but we can never say where we may end up in our life when sickness or trauma falls upon us.
Hopefully when these storms come into our lives the Lord will send Angels to lift us up and carry us through the storms that rise up against us.
This is an unbelievable story about a remarkably selfless person that has experienced the unimaginable. I'm her sister and I still get upset thinking about the incident.
In 2010, Doris was bitten by a rat at Providence Hospital in Washington DC while working as an Autopsy Specialist in the hospital's morgue. The rat came out of the body cavity of a decedent and bit her. As a result she contracted Rat Fever (who knew such a thing existed?), SEPSIS, MRSA, post traumatic stress disorder, seizures, severe depression and a host of other ailments all resulting from that single rat bite. She has been on life support 3 times and was pronounced dead once. She has to be quarantined during outbreaks of rat fever, and the seizures are happening more often than ever.
Doris' insurance won't cover any of the medical bills associated with the incident, and she has to pay cash for her medications.
The jury reached a decision in her case, and Doris was recently and awarded her just over $200,000. This did not include recoupement for medical expenses that have accumulated since 2010. Providence Hospital is appealing that decision so she's not even receiving that in the forseeable future. Doris stands to be hit with millions in medical and legal bills and Providence stands to get off scott free. IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT!!!
Family and friends have contributed as much as possible over the course of almost 4 years and our funds are depleting. Doris needs your help. It hurts our heart that she of all people have to go through this, but everything happens for a reason. She has battled death and life we truly believe that GOD is working in and through her. I see an remarkable spiritual growth in her which is so evident when you speak with her.
She has a long road ahead of her in regards to her emotional and medical disorders with no monies in sight to take care of the day to day medications and services she needs just to survive.
