Aaron's Butterfly Run Ottawa

Pregnancy is supposed to be a time of excitement and anticipation of the future. Unfortunately, pregnancy and infant loss (also known as perinatal loss) affects 1 in 4 women and their partners and families. Perinatal loss is defined as the death of an infant during pregnancy or soon thereafter. These losses are devastating and it can be hard for others to understand the magnitude of grief that accompanies these losses.

Aaron's Butterfly Run 2017 is the 1st charity run of its kind in the Ottawa and Gatineau area.  Aaron’s Butterfly Run is a 1 mile family walk/run and 5km walk/run in Ottawa/Gatineau to support families who have experienced a loss during pregnancy or the loss of a child by:

Increasing community awareness and encouraging dialogue about pregnancy, infant and child loss;
Providing an opportunity to create connections and community; and
Providing funds for hospice and bereavement programs at Roger Neilson House in Ottawa.

Being a bereaved parent is a path that no one should walk alone. Aaron's Butterfly Run Ottawa/Gatineau will be a celebration of life, no matter how long or short. On October 14th, 2017, we will be walking or running to raise awareness for all types of pregnancy and infant loss.  All funds raised from the run registration will go to Roger Neilson House, a program of the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) through The Ottawa Senators Foundation.

The Perinatal Hospice at Roger Neilson House provides support to families whose babies are likely to die before, during, or shortly after birth.  Perinatal Hospice includes comprehensive support from the time of diagnosis, through the birth and death of the infant, and into the postpartum period.  Roger Neilson House also offers a Perinatal Loss Parent Bereavement Support Group for parents who have lost a pregnancy over 20 weeks or infant death (up to the first 28 days of life).   The 2017 run is being organized in honour of baby Aaron, a patient of the Perinatal Hospice at Roger Neilson House who spent 100 precious minutes with his family after birth.

We are asking for your financial support in order to cover the costs of the run.  This includes run signage, run kits, and food for the runners and walkers among other costs.  Your donation will also leverage the efforts of hundreds of individuals and families in Canada who are working to ensure that all parents have support during and after pregnancy and infant loss.

Thank you for standing with parents and families who have to face the devastating reality of losing a pregnancy or an infant. Together we will ensure our community has the support necessary to ensure parents and families have the care they desperately need.
