Community Healing & Learning Space
$2,066 of $4,050 goal
*Version française en bas*
This studio will be a teaching space and healing space, a community space for learning, consultations, divination, meditations, etc. If anyone is interested in sharing this space or aiding with rent, please help me fund this so we can have a community space again. This is my crowd funding project for the costs of this place as it would be nice to have a few months paid in advance and help to furnish it into a beautiful sacred space.
It is ~ 400 square feet and in Montreal West.
Public Transit: Bus 61 (stops at the corner) and with a short walk are Buses 51, 105, 90, and 123. And the train!
It is close to small community parks that we could use for outdoor events. It has a parking lot across the street, so no street parking or the need to pay for parking!
The goal of $4050 covers 6 months rent & city taxes, electricity, and some decor and basic furnishings.
In light of that, July will be the last month of amazing activities. Dark Moon ritual (July 15th @ 7pm); New Moon Ritual (July 17th); Adult Coloring Day (July 18th @ 1pm); Mini Gemstone & Healing Fair (July 26th ALL DAY); and Blue Moon Ritual (July 30th @ 7pm).
We know many of you felt this location was too far to get to (less far than the West Island, but still too far) and not "next to a metro station", but such places are incredibly expensive to cover the rent for and no one in the community wants to pay that (many have trouble paying $5 for an event).
So thank you to all the donors and the surprise saving angels when I needed them most to cover rent. I am about to give birth and that has especially forced my hand with where I have to put my energy.
The summer is under way and the studio is still open to share its space for the low fee of $10/hr for events and activities.
I would like to thank all those who have made donations so far. Our 1-year anniversary is only a couple months away. I would love to make sure this space continues to be available for everyone.
You can help! And I do not mean by matching the few who have donated several hundred dollars at various times when our needs grew dire. I mean small and simple and regular. If just 20-30 people donated $10/month regularly, that would make a significant difference!
Here is where the money goes as a reminder:
$547 - Rent and building insurance
$50 - hydroelectricity
(hopefully we will add internet wifi but that depends on if we can remain open, the feasibility of installing wifi, and the cost of said wifi.)
- public rituals
- workshops and activities
- larger events (like Beltain Fair)
- promoting education for children
- inspiring young writers
If the studio cannot manage to be viable after this time, I will have to re-evaluate people's need in low-cost space for events and activities ($10/hr to a max of $50/day).
I mention this now because I am pregnant and have to be very realistic with my finances with a child on the way. Up till now, the studio has been paid part by donation, part my rent, and mostly from my pocket.
Costs with taxes each month are about $547. There are often other side costs: hydro, kitchen supplies (milk, coffee, etc.), maintenance supplies (ex. window insulation for the winter).
People have complained that it feels far to get to this location, that they want a place next to a metro and more central Downtown. They do not seem to realize two critical reasons why this does not happen. 1) Rent of locations Downtown are greater than $1000 a month before taxes and utilities, this means the cost for events would be unreasonably high and many already seem to struggle with a $5 cover charge. 2) No one has the spare pocket money to manage such a place out of pocket if there isn't enough drawn in from the community.
One last reason is that attendance to events and activities (even requested ones) is extremely low. This too has necessitated re-evaluating the need for a space.
I hope some things change as the weather grows warmer and people start to come out of hibernation. I would love to continue to offer a wonderful inexpensive little space for you all.
