Brothers Keeper Summer Trip

Brothers Keeper is a club based in Barrington, Illinois at Barrington High School. Every summer students from Barrington High School have the opportunity to travel to Crow Creek in South Dakota, to spend a week on a Native American Reservation. Our founder/mentor is Ray Piagentini who constantly guides and inspires the students in the club. We are trying to make a positive impact on the Native Americans that are living on Crow Creek reservation in South Dakota. Every year a select few go on a trip to the Native American Reservation for a cultural exchange camp. Brothers Keeper is seeking to connect with the people on the Crow Creek reservation. Our club spends about a week on the reservation. On the reservation we get to connect with the children and adults. Throughout our day we have many activities for the children, we do arts and crafts, visit the pool, as well as the lake, and we go on adventures on the reservation. Every year we take all the kids to Wal-mart to help them buy the things they cannot afford. These kids are extremely appreciative of this because they get to buy things such as shirts, pants, underwear; some of the kids even buy things for their elders. This money will be put toward food, drinks, transportation, arts & crafts, and the Wal-mart trip. Our trip takes place in mid June.
This will not only be benefitting the students of Barrington High School but the children on the reservation who wait all year to see these students for only a week. These students have the opportunity to learn about their culture and history and leave that environment they are so used to.  We hope to reach our goal (or go above it!!) to be able to make the trip out there this year by the end of the school year. With your help we will be able to take the students out there and get that once in a lifetime experience. Not only do the students look forward to this trip but the children on the reservation and being able to make those connections and friendships they never would have without this trip.
