UAW 1005 for Flint

This fund will tentatively close on Friday Feb. 22, 2016 at 1:00PM. 

UAW Local 1005 represents members working at the GM Parma Metal Center, Aramark Janitorial Services, AVI Cafeteria Services and the Table Games Dealers and Slot Performance Technicians of the Horshoe Casino in Cleveland OH.

In 1936 - 1937 Flint Michigan and Cleveland Ohio were linked by UAW members in the General Motors Corporation participating in the Sit-Down Strikes that won workers' rights to collective bargaining with GM.

During that time in 1937, both Flint and Cleveland showed a resolve to overcome great adversity  but now Flint must face a challenge that has been forced upon them by the politicians that were supposed to  represent the citizen's best interests.

Flint Michigan, the home to many UAW active and retired members and their families, is being poisoned by their water supply.  A supply spoiled by bad political decisions.

Cleveland (Parma) Ohio and Flint must stand together once again as we did in 1937 to overcome this adversity.

UAW Local 1005, located in Parma, Ohio and representing members from the GM Parma Metal Center and members from the Horshoe Casino in Cleveland, Ohio are raising money to send to the United Way of Genesee County (Michigan) to aid in the Flint Water Crisis.

The United Way of Genesee County has stated that NO administrative costs will be coming from any monetary donations made to the Flint Water Crisis.  They have also stated that this money will go towards water filters, water bottles, lead testing kit, purifying pitchers and filters for schools.

Once all the residents have purifiers and all Flint schools have updated filters, the remaining money will go into a Community Collaborative Fund for long term care of the Flint residents affected by lead posioning.

Once our fund closes and is added to the gate collections of the General Motors Parma MFD worksite, the money collected will be sent to the United Way of Genesee County in Michigan in the name of UAW Local 1005 Active and Retired Members.
