BOXES OF LOVE - CAJITAS DE AMOR

This is a story of four sisters who grew up in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Grisselle, Frances, Mari Jo and Maricelis Laborde. After Hurricane Maria, many of Grisselle's friends in Pennsylvania asked how they could help.
Since the devastation of Hurricane Maria, these sisters have been working together to help Puerto Rican Americans who are struggling without food, clean water or electricity.
The postal service is unable to deliver packages but they can receive them to a few offices on the island. What the sisters came up with was to ask people to send boxes of provisions which Frances could pick up from the post office and hand deliver to families in need. They created Boxes of Love - Cajitas de Amor.
Grisselle Laborde lives in Doylestown, PA, where she teaches Spanish. Frances lives in Bayamon Puerto Rico where she is an architect for the city of Guaynabo. Mari Jo is an advertising executive who lives in Guaynabo and Maricelis is an accounting manager who lives in a town called Lajas in the southwest part of Puerto Rico.
Facts:
Since September 28, 2017, over 200 boxes have been sent and distributed to families and eldercare organizations in the most affected areas in multiple towns in the city, coast and mountains of Puerto Rico.
Boxes of Love is collecting provisions for families in Puerto Rico. Each box can feed a small family for about a week. By participating in this program, you are not just feeding someone, you are lifting their spirit and keeping them strong to continue their fight to recover. There are still people in Puerto Rico who have not received food or water.
Since the situation has improved moderately in the San Juan area and supermarkets are starting to open and sell provisions, Boxes of Love has started to purchase larger needed supplies that are too costly to ship via postal service as well as purchase supplies to prepare warm, ready to eat meals to take with them and distribute on their deliveries to the victims.
Every day new needs arise, from shoes and clothing to building supplies and mosquito nets. With your help and donations we intend to continue helping by providing items for as long as they are needed.
