My family and I moved to Stone Mountain Village three years ago and very quickly fell in love with the place. We fell in love with the charming, historic homes but more so we fell in love with the people and the community here. Over the years, we kept hearing very similar conversations being repeated of how much "potential" this small town has but ultimately, people were afraid to take the risk. At the beginning of this year we felt like our family was being called to take the risk and do the hard work that it takes to invest in Stone Mountain Village. The way we feel like we can best serve the community is by adding vibrancy to Main Street with The Local Gem Boutique!
The Local Gem Boutique
The Local Gem Boutique started almost one year ago on September 5th (on my birthday!). Over the past year we have been building brand awareness and exploring what kind of products our customers love most by doing pop up shops and online sales. We began seeking out a permanent home for our store in March and on August 8th, we were finally handed the keys to our new store location. This journey has not been without it's challenges including permitting issues and having to move our store front location right as we were preparing to launch in our previous location. But in the end, we are in a much larger location giving us even more space to hold and create community and for that we are so thankful. Our new store home will be opening at 945 Main Street!
Our Vision
Our vision for the local gem is to create a place where locals and tourists alike can shop and find unique and exciting treasures. A little over 50% of our inventory will be made by local artisans or Fair Trade by our Artisan partners in underdeveloped communities around the globe. We strive to keep this a curated collection of items that are timeless in style as well as practical.
We also want our space to serve as a gathering hub for the community by offering yoga and meditation, mommy and me classes and other children's activities, book clubs, monthly artisan markets, "how to" classes and more. By offering beautiful products and an array of opportunities to create community we hope to add an element of new life and vibrancy to the place we call home.
How you can help
We are asking our friends, family and community to please consider helping us in making this dream a reality. We have already invested as much of our personal savings that we can muster which has covered securing our new space and getting initial batches of inventory, But there is still a gap between that and our opening costs. Your generous donations will be used towards
- Getting all required permitting and inspections completed
-Doing minimal renovations to the interior of the space to make sure our customers feel comfortable and welcome during gatherings and shopping
- To further develop the store with more inventory, marketing, and to allow us to keep the lights on during this initial phase of opening.
