Bona Fide is a small family run NGO in Pljevlja, Montenegro. They started off as a women’s shelter and initiative that began more than 20 years ago with the aim of creating projects to empower local women.

Their work has changed over the last year and a half due to the growing numbers of refugees passing through the town on their way to safety.

In the winter of 2017 they noticed a drastic increase in the numbers of families and vulnerable people arriving in Pljevlja with nowhere to sleep and no access to food or warm clothing.

In the last year and a half they have hosted over 2000 refugees and migrants in the shelter with up to 60 people a night sleeping here, providing them with food, medical care, clothing, and showers and washing facilities.

Every day in Pljevlja refugees and migrants arrive on buses from the capital Podgorica three times a day. Many of them need warm clothes, food or medical care before embarking on the next step of their journey.

They go to these buses every day to find out what people need, whether it is a warm jacket food or a safe place to sleep they do the best to help them. As they are the only group working on the ground in this area they are trying to continue providing these services however they need help.

They desperatly need to cover the costs of keeping the shelter open  to cover the rent, water bills, electricity bills, internet and heating for the next three months, as well as the fuel for the car that they use to transport families to and from the bus and to deliver much need donations.

They need to raise funds asap otherwise the electricity and water will be cut. The village is poor and can’t provide the resources to help them. Much of this is coming from their own pockets placing these dedicated women into extreme hardship.
