Our hearts hurt. My heart hurts. I lost a former colleague of 15 years.
On June 30, the world lost an all around amazing person. Nancy Allen was a colleague, mother, daughter, wife and friend to her immediate family and her extended church family. On that fateful Friday, Nancy was home recuperating from knee surgery when lightning struck the family home. The Fire Dept. arrived in six minutes but the flames had already spread everywhere and destroyed everything. Nancy was unable to escape.
Nancy was a production graphics operator at WREG-TV. She is the kind of employee every boss wants to hire. She made things happen. Equally dedicated was Nancy`s longtime husband, Bobby. He worked alongside her as a Broadcast engineer - the guy who fixes things no one else knows how to fix to keep the television station on the air.
Nancy and Bobby were like high school sweethearts and often held hands at work and ate lunch together. They met at the station, were married in 1986, and are the proud parents of four beautiful children: Cecilia, James, Peter, and Victoria.
I remember Nancy loved music. She was involved with marching band practice, choir practice and even sung in the choir. When Nancy Allen was around, everything was going to be all right. She was was kind, funny, smart, and compassionate. Most importantly, she was loved by everyone who knew her. There are no words to describe the magnificent person we all lost and the pain is even deeper for those left behind. Bobby Allen not only lost his wife in a tragic fire, he lost his best friend. And, he lost his home. The home can be rebuilt.
Family and friends near and far are deeply saddened by this loss and still trying to process it. When you heard the news report, you felt something.

All donations made to this page will be forwarded directly to Bobby Allen so he can rebuild his life: clothing for his family, memorial services for Nancy and a new place to call home.
