A Dream Revealed: Bobbi to Barnard

Donation protected
Imagine the anticipation a college basketball player feels before his name is called for the NBA Draft or a beauty contestant before being named "Miss USA".  There is a pit at the bottom of their stomachs and their hearts feel up like a balloon with excitement upon the announcement of their accomplishment.  These emotions perfectly describe my disposition as I waited to hear the fate of my acceptance into the Barnard  "Summer in the City" Pre-College Program.  I opened the email and saw the words "Congratulations". I screamed "Yes!" My enthusiasm lingered as I read through the first paragraph.   And then, it happened.  The balloon feeling in my chest began to deflate.  I was awarded a partial scholarship.  While I am very grateful, I know that the remaining balance is a colossal feat for my parents to conquer.  I hesitated before sharing the wonderful news with my mom and dad.  I envisioned us jumping up and down as if we had advanced to the Fast Money round on an episode of the Family Feud. I thought about my mom freezing in mid-air as she discovered the remaining fees that we would be responsible for paying.  Hence, the reason I initially applied for the program's need-based scholarship.  Unfortunately, it is challenging to impart financial need based solely on my parents' tax documents.  It is difficult to show how my parents sacrifice their wants and some of their needs in an effort to pay for my DECA obligations and other extracurricular activities, as well as, my brother's education.  My parents want the best for my brother and myself.  They do everything possible to provide for us while continuously sacrificing their own dreams.  I can't take seeing another patch of gray hair sprout up on my mom's head or her eyes sadden because she doesn't know how to tell me that our funds are low.  Hence, the reason I am seeking help from the generosity of the general public.  Below is a breakdown of the donation amount that I am seeking:
Cost of the Program $6800 - $3000 (need-based scholarship award) = $3800
Travel Expenses from Atlanta to New York = $800
Spending Money for Progam Events = $400 (4 weeks @ $100)
Total Cost = $5000
I appreciate your consideration and donation in advance.  I pledge to be in a position one day where I can also pour into the future of a young person's dream.
