My name is Nathan Masters, owner of SimpleShot Shooting Sports from Asheville NC and Blue Skeen is my friend and in need of help.
On monday morning at 1am, my dear friend and patriarch to the slingshot community, Mr. Richard "Blue" Skeen of Pound, VA and multi-time national slingshot champion, lost his home and all his earthly possessions, in a house fire. He escaped with only the clothes on his back. I found it hard to imagine how he must feel, just shy of his 84th birthday. The fire was a total loss- all of his possessions gone in an instant. He had no insurance to cover the loss.
In 2001, my wife and I lost our home to a housefire. We awoke in the middle of the night with only enough time to get out of the burning and smoke with our lives. We were 26 years old at the time. It was a challenge then, I just couldn't imagine it happening at Blue's age. As such, I want to help him in any way I can and sometimes money solves problems faster than anything else.
Blue is well known worldwide for his slingshot shooting prowess, kind and generous spirit, and the elder statesman of all things slingshot. For the last several years, slingshot enthusiasts have joined Blue at his home in Pound, VA each spring and fall to share the love of slingshots and learn from the master. His willingness to share and his kind spirit have resulted in his becoming not only a cornerstone in his local community, but a worldwide legend and mentor to those who love slingshots.
I have personally been blessed to have Blue as a wise counselor and advisor to my slingshot company, but more importantly he is a good friend and kindred spirit. As a victim of fire and lover of the slingshot myself, I feel compelled to help our friend, and money to help with the unknown future is as good as a strong back....speaking of which, if you live close by, go give him a hand with what ever he is working on!
Blue has done so much for the slingshot community that we must come to his side to help him in this time of crisis. The money will be used for Blue create and build a new home for himself and all the other myriad of things that were lost in the fire. The specifics of how that money is to be spent is up to Blue. He is a wise man and knows how to stretch a penny better than most. Our primary goal is to get Blue back into a home on his land so we can all continue to travel from afar to shoot slingshots, tell stories, and enjoy the wisdom Blue has to offer.
