Black Women's Think Tank

In 1992 I helped found a non-profit organization named Black Women Overcoming Social Statistics (BOSS).  As a 26 year old young professional I saw a huge gap in all things important to African American women.  So myself along with 100 other young professional black women from traditional under-served communities (largely in New York City) set out to make a difference.  We were extremely successful at mentoring young girls who have since become professionals; and established a strong presence in our Brooklyn communities through a number of high impact workshops.  We didn't maintain the organization, but the fire still burns.  Twenty Six years later, it's no surprise the same issues that concerned me back then still exist.  Some exponentially!  But it's simple.  The solution to issues that affect African American women is to launch a platform that specifies, lays out, owns and addresses our issues in our words.  We have to formulate a response to:  Politics, Education, Sexual Abuse, Hollywood, Academia, Domestic Violence, Equal Pay  and the many other issues that have continuously failed to serve us properly.  We have to create documentaries; meet with Fortune 500 and Power Five University Presidents; produce or own films; build collective wealth; create meaningful response to domestic and sexual violence; establish a sound presence in the discourse and stamp our flavor on "all things important to African American women" now.  We do not care if the country of the world is African American female friendly.  But we command and demand worldwide respect! 

This campaign is my effort to bring together powerful minds in the same room, on the same page or simply moving in the right direction towards our self-defined relevance and rightful place!
