What started on March 19, 2013 as a Curly Wurly induced idea about friendship, geek loves, and snail mail, has blossomed into a community of nearly 20,000 website members, 8,000 pair ups, and 50,000 hits a month to our site. And now... guess what?
We are tremendously honored at the opportunity to potentially receive a coveted Geekie Award - a prestigious honor in the geek and nerd community. We have been in the running for best website/blog for several weeks, and on July 14, we learned that the epic panel of judges picked OUR website as one of the top 5 nominees! Cool, right?
Now we need YOUR help to get to the awards show so that we can accept our award, if we win. We have already won free tickets to the show since we are nominated, but that does not cover airfare or hotel costs... and since we are the International Geek Girl Pen Pals Club, we're from all over the place. We're asking for $1,000 to start which should get 2 of our USA staff members to the show, covering airfare and hotel, but if we raise more, perhaps our overseas staffers can attend, too. We will just have to see how this goes! It's up to you, Iggles!
The award show will take place August 17, 2014 in Hollywood, CA, and also be live streaming on Twitch TV & XBox.
