BILL FLAHERTY CONTINUES TO BE“BOSTON STRONG” IN HIS FIGHT AGAINST TESTICULAR CANCER!
We ask for your support in his fight against a very rare and aggressive testicular cancer!
A wonderful husband, brother, uncle, and good friend to so many people, he continues his courageous battle to beat this rare cancer. Bill has received extraordinary support from so many family members and friends throughout this serious illness. However, we continue to need even greater support today, as the financial burden of multiple medical procedures and relocations from San Diego, California to Houston’s MD Anderson Clinic has created a significant financial burden for them.
Bill’s spirit continues to remain positive and strong as he has been fighting this cancer for over 18 months! He was first diagnosed with this rare, highly aggressive cancer back in January, 2014. Upon receiving this devastating news, Bill & Denise were flown immediately to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas by medical transport in near death condition. The cancer had already metastasized from his testicle to his lungs, brain, spleen, and kidney. MD Anderson started treatment immediately and Bill has survived and handled well over 9 rounds of chemotherapy, one surgery, and countless blood transfusions over the past year. Just recently, specialists at MD Anderson commented on how well he looks and that he is “doing very well” with all these treatments. In February, 2015, Bill was doing so well that he was deemed to be “Cancer Free” after all his CAT and MRI scans showed no active cancer anywhere in his body, including his brain! Bill & Denise were ecstatic and were able to return to their home in San Diego and experience some time recovering, relaxing, and spending time with their friends and neighbors.
Unfortunately, during the month of May, the cancer returned once again, and Bill & Denise needed to return to MD Anderson Clinic for another round of more specialized, aggressive treatments. Bill has just completed a round of High Dose Chemotherapy, along with a stem cell transplant from his twin brother Bobby. Doctors are highly optimistic of a favorable outcome, and continue to be amazed with Bill’s spirit, energy level, humor, and fighting spirit! He is now battling the symptoms that come along with high dose chemo treatments, but continues to reach out to family and friends via text and email with strength, humor, and love.
Bill is aware that there are more surgeries to come in the months ahead to beat this cancer, but he is looking ahead with a smile on his face to the day where he “beats” and “wins” this battle!!
Bill & Denise have shown extraordinary courage, strength, and love throughout this very challenging time in their lives! They both continue to smile and fight the challenges day by day and look forward to the day that they will be able to return to their home and be with family and friends. What we have all learned during this journey is that:
“Family and Friends are the Greatest Gifts of Life!”
We ask for your generous support and contributions to help Bill, Denise, and our families fight this disease! The multiple medical procedures and relocations have created an enormous financial burden for them. We are looking to give them comfort knowing that they will have additional funds to support them in their fight against cancer. We THANK ALL OF YOU for your support and contributions! Bill & Denise bring to life the expression of “Boston Strong” and we all look forward to the day that Bill can declare he has won the battle against cancer!
Thank you!
