If you knew you could touch peoples life and change the world, would you do it?

I have a dream to end the death penalty in the United States and around the world. I know we can do this and I know we all have something to contribute to the effort. I also know that my voice is a little bit different than most people when it comes to this issue.  I supported the death penalty when my grandmother was murdered. But then I came to understand that my grandmother would never have wanted 15-year-old Paula Cooper to be executed in her name.  I had a change of heart, and I worked to get Paula's death sentenced overturned and commuted to 30 years in prison.  That meant  she would live and some day even chance a chance to be free. You can see a short video of me telling my story here  on Democracy Now with Sister Helen Prejean..  My bio page  of the Journey of Hope ...From Violence to Healing web page will tell you more.

I share my story every chance I get - not because I want to relive a horrific experience that happened in my family, but because I know that in telling my story of what happened to our family, I can help people understand the healing power of forgiveness. My voice and my story helps move people and helps those who don't have a story like mine understand why the death penalty does not meet the needs of murder victim family members.
