Berkeley Against Sexual Harassment
Our work is urgent because this is a pressing problem at BHS where support is minimal and there is very limited access to services for victims of harassment; and virtually no training for school staff or students on the issue. We seek to engage school and district administration decision makers to immediately address shortcomings in the school environment that create an unsafe learning environment and impede student success.
This GoFundMe appeal is to help us get cool T-shirts, buttons and pins to give away during a mass teach-in planned for late November and early December. We will have sessions with national experts to discuss how sexual harassment issues are handled today at BHS and how this can be improved, with practical next steps on how to move the campaign forward. Participants will also be asked to consider signing a petition calling for immediate and progressive improvements in the school’s approach to addressing sexual harassment, compliant with Title IX law. So they can show continued support, students will be offered specialty T-shirts or buttons/pins that include a supportive message and a hashtag for further interaction on the topic via social media.
We appreciate your support!
Funding Target: $8,000 for up to 800 T-shirts, buttons and stickers.
We will be launching a new campaign soon, more details on that coming as well, so keep your eyes peeled!
Thanks so much, donors! You have empowered the students of BHS to fight for what we deserve and create an environment that is safe for all students.
BHS Stop Harassing delivered a powerful call to action to the BUSD school board last night, with over 150 people in attendance. Ten brave young women stood before the school board and shared personal tales of sexual harassment. They showed tremendous courage, and their stories brought to light the reality that the BUSD is finding itself facing: that it's sexual harassment policy is hurting students. Our presentation ended with the student founder (me, Liana) calling directly upon the school board to change the harmful policy. We walked off the floor to thunderous applause.
But our journey is far from over. We need you, our donors and supporters, more than ever. Help us hit our goal of $8,000, so we can provide 500 more students with T-shirts. We plan to have a website up soon, where adults and supporters can purchase their own shirts. And most important, TALK about BHS Stop Harassing. Let everyone know that we are here, and fighting for change. This is how our movement will truly grow.
A big thank you to all contributors!
