Hello!
In the near future, Kyra and Jorian hope to go on a medical internship in the Dominican Republic. During our stay in La Romana, we will spend time working alongside doctors in a regional hospital. This experience will allow us to gain a deeper insight into our chosen careers and help us understand the differences in healthcare around the globe. With the Caribbean climate of La Romana, the heat brings many tropical diseases including dengue fever. Since that nice weather also attracts tourists, there is a large amount of road traffic that leads to a wide variety of scenarios in the emergency room. Following our shifts in the hospital, we will have the opportunity to spend our evenings volunteering and giving back to the local community.
In order to achieve our goal of taking part in this opportunity, we must first raise sufficient funds to cover travel costs, medical supplies, housing, job placement, and other odds and ends.
We hope you understand how enthusiastic we are about this opportunity and how important it is for us. We have already taken numerous measures in advancing our careers including taking summer courses at Harvard University, maintaining excellent grades, volunteering in our home communities, and shadowing physicians in our area.
