Hi everyone,
My name is Line Paquette. I have 3 amazing kids, 2 which are grown and one 8 year old name Bella.
Since she was little, Bella would scream if someone even looked at her.. For years we just brushed it off as developmental but then she started to shut down. Bringing her out in public places would be a struggle, even going to favorite places like McDonald's and the grocery store. We even had to force her kicking and screaming to go to school.
Her teacher last year suggested we go and see a doctor as Bella was having difficulties and her behavior was changing daily. She was diagnosed with ADHD and with proper management and medication things at school started improving.
At home we still had had the kicking, screaming and huge "trantrums" so we went back to the doctor and she was diagnosed with severe anxiety. We were already medicating her for the ADHD and we decided not to medicate with prescription drugs for anxiety.
We have found an alternative to the medication for anxiety and her name is Dixie.
Dixie is Bella's service dog in training. Dixie is more valuable and more effective than any prescription medication. Dixie goes to the mall, the park, restaurants and more. Dixie goes everywhere with Bella and helps Bella feel comfortable in public places.
Dixie is still in training and will not be able to enter Bella's school until she is fully trained. Since Bella does not have Dixie with her at school, she still struggles with attendance. She goes to school mornings only as this is all she can do, some days are better then others.
Our goal is to have Bella continue her education but she requires her service dog. We have an amazing Dog Trainer Jessica that works with Bella and Dixie once per week. We would like more time but need a bit more funding to help us get the time we need for Bella and Dixie.
We are asking our friends and family to help with what they can :)
