Reading For The Future

Spende geschützt
We are crowdfunding a literacy program to give low-income schools access to highly effective, easy to use literacy tools.

The Need
Reading is a fundamental skill that students use in virtually every subject.  Reading ability is directly tied to graduation and dropout rates, and students who cannot read by fourth grade are 400% as likely to drop out of school.  Without basic literacy skills, these kids will struggle to find a job, let alone build a career in the information economy that we live in.

Who We Are
BeeLine Reader is a social-impact startup with a literacy technology that dramatically increases reading fluency for young children, readers with dyslexia, vision difficulties, or other reading challenges.  Our technology has been validated by independent and controlled educator testing, and it has been featured by the American Optometric Association.  We have won social-impact awards from Stanford University and The Tech Museum of Innovation.  Most importantly, our tools make students and teachers say stuff like this:

"Do you know how much easier this makes it to read?!?!?!"

"Where has this been my whole life?"

"I am literally crying right now this is one of the most useful and beneficial things that could ever come into my life."

"BeeLine provides struggling students the opportunity to succeed in reading. I am very, very excited!”

Equal Access
We believe that educational technology is a double-edged sword.  After all, an effective educational tool can end up exacerbating income inequality—if it's only available to wealthy schools and students.  This is why we launched our buy-1-give-5 program, which benefits students in low-income schools.  With this program, we give our browser plugin users the opportunity to sponsor 5 students for just a couple dollars extra.  We heard from many of you that you want to help more students, so we launched this campaign!

Your Gift
For just $4, you can put an effective, easy-to-use reading tool in the hands of a student in need.  You can sponsor a classroom for $100, a Boys and Girls club for for $500, or a school for $1,000.

The Goal
We are starting locally, here in the Bay Area.  Our first beneficiary schools are in the Ravenswood District of East Palo Alto and the Boys and Girls Club serving East Palo Alto and Redwood City.  To reach these 4500 students, we'll need to raise $18,000.  Any excess funds will benefit schools in other low-income communities—Oakland and San Jose are next, and then New Orleans, Washington DC, and NYC!

Fine Print
To qualify as a beneficiary school, at least 90% of students must be eligible for free or reduced-cost lunch.  Gifts are not tax-deductible, as we are currently a for-profit social impact organization.  If you have any questions about our mission, our dedication to literacy, or this program, please send us an email!
