Buy one block for 5 Euros and help us reconstruct the Great Aten Temple!

The ancient city of Tell el-Amarna, located 300km south of Cairo, is under permanent threat from modern building and agricultural activity. In consequence, the Amarna Project is excavating and reconstructing the city's most important ceremonial building: The Great Aten Temple .

Alongside our ongoing excavations on behalf of the Amarna Project, we are replacing the stones removed after the abandonment of the city with limestone blocks from the famous Tura quarries near Cairo, making the building outlines visible.

You can help us by donating one or more limestone blocks for 5 Euros each, which will carry your name or the inscription of your choice.
Thus, you will become a part of the ancient city and help to protect one of the most important buildings of Ancient Egypt.

If you have problems donating via this page, please check our latest update to find the bank details of the Amarna Trust for a direct transfer. Please write 'Amarna blocks' as the subject.

Dear supporters of the Amarna Project:
many thanks to all of you who have donated one or several blocks or a column base.
We would like to apologise for the delay in sending out certificates. Unfortunately, we are still waiting for our permit to work at Amarna.

The blocks for the 2019 spring season's reconstruction work have already been delivered to the Great Aten Temple, so your donations have been used according to their intended purpose.

We are planning to go to Amarna as soon as the permit and security clearance are in place.
We will then inscribe your blocks and document the construction work of your column base(s) and the temple walls.
You will receive your certificate(s) as soon as possible!

Many thanks for your understanding and best wishes,
Anna and Miriam

May the Aten shine upon you!

Dear supporters of the Amarna Project!

The year 2019 is approaching, and we have big plans for our spring season at Amarna.
After a very successful autumn season (thanks to all the support we got), we will continue to rebuild the front part of the Pr Itn, the "House of the Aten", to protect it further from local encroachment through the village cemetery.

Our work will start by moulding 8 column bases out of a mixture of alabaster and gypsum, reinforced by iron bars, which will be placed at the original position of the sandstone columns that were leading the way towards the first stone pylons of the temple.

We will also start rebuilding the ramp that led to Akhenaten's personal offering platform in between the pylons, from where he must have had a brilliant view across the entire temple area up to the cliffs in the east, the horizon of the Aten.

For this, we will need paving stones and talatat limestone blocks from the Tura quarries near Cairo.
They are 5 € each, and will be inscribed as you wish.

Donate a paving stone or a talatat block to a beloved person, a close friend, a family member.
We will send you a certificate with the picture of your block and its position in the temple as soon as our work has started.

If you have problems donating blocks via this page, you can also tranfer your donation directly to our
Amarna Trust accout.
Please write 'Amarna blocks' as a subject and send a short note to:

The Amarna Project is very happy and grateful to announce that thanks to the generous donations of our supporters we have now purchased a sufficient number of blocks to finish this season’s reconstruction work at the Great Aten Temple. Another big step towards protecting the site from encroachment has been taken.

There is now the opportunity to fund one of eight column bases, which will be moulded from a mixture of white cement and alabaster powder with iron bars for support at the beginning of next season in the spring of 2019.
They are 50€ each, and will contain a „time capsule“, containing a sheet with the inscription of your choice.

Soon every donor will receive a certificate with pictures of the block(s) and a plan showing their estimated location in the temple. If we haven't contacted you so far, please send us an email:

amarnablocks@gmail.com

This will also enable us to send you our newsletter to keep you informed about the work of the Amarna Project.

If you wish to continue supporting us: we will need plenty of blocks next season, which will hopefully start at the end of January 2019.

Please continue sharing.

A very big THANK YOU to everybody. May the Aten shine upon you.

Thanks to the generous donations of the last two weeks, we are very happy to announce that the Amarna Project was able to buy a truck load of 100 limestone blocks from the Tura quarries. As soon as the local builders around Mr Shahata Fahmy are finished laying out the foundations, the blocks will be used to create the final layer and give a good impression of the outlines of the two platforms and the adjacent first stone pylon of the pr Itn, the „House of the Aten“.
