Batman Emergency Fund-Dave Batton

As many of you are aware, Hurricane Harvey has severely impacted the lives of thousands of Houston residents. It’s going to be a long and trying road as they try to get back on their feet. It’s difficult to single out any individuals in this time, but the impact of this hurricane and other life circumstances sometimes calls for extra measures.

My brother and I are trying to raise funds for our Dad. We live in Katy/The Woodlands, respectively.

While he will feel lower then the belly of a dirt worm to know we are doing this, sometimes, you give so much in this world that you deserve some good. And that's what Danny and I do. No matter what, we keep showing up for our people.

My dad, Dave Batton, graduated from Springfield High School in ‘74 and Notre Dame in ‘78 and was co-captain of the basketball team that reached the NCAA Final Four in ‘78. He has two children, 3 grandchildren (soon to be four), and countless friends he would go to the end of the world to help in any way he could. I feel compelled to tell you his story and ask for your help, because I know he would do the very same for me and any of you.

Recently, my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It is so recent that we are still waiting on the results of some tests to verify the severity. However, surgery is definite.

Additionally, he had just moved his mother down to Houston to take care of her. He moved them into a new apartment early August and purchased a bed, couch, and other furnishings for them. Everything they owned is now under 6 plus feet of water.

Early Monday morning, the water from the bayou behind his apartment began spilling into his 1st floor home. Carrying his elderly mother, he was forced to evacuate his home and drive through four feet of water to escape the overflowing Addicks Watershed.
I’m relieved to tell you he and my grandma are safe and sound at my sister’s house in Katy.

Of course, my dad is continuing to keep a positive attitude through everything he has endured the past few months. A word I continue to hear him use over and over again is “grateful”.

My dad is the most kind-hearted, gentle, uplifting, and genuinely good man I have ever known and it breaks my heart to continue wondering when he is going to catch a break.

I’ve never done this before so all I know how to do is share from the heart and ask whoever is reading this to help in any way they can.

Because of his size – 6’9” and size 16 shoe – normal donations of furniture and clothing will not fit him, which is part of the reason for this fund. All contributions will go directly to my dad for surgery, car repair, housing, furnishing, and clothing costs as well as any lost pay incurred either in the flood or during his upcoming surgery.

The funds will be withdrawn directly by the beneficiary for his needs as they occur.
