Bathampton Meadows Alliance

The Bathampton Meadows Alliance is a local community affiliation, of individuals and representatives of other bodies and groups, including Parish Councils and pressure groups. It is a not-for-profit and non-political group. We came together after 80 people spoke out against plans for a 1400-space park and ride car park on Bathampton Meadows at the B&NES full council meeting of November 2015. We have worked as a voluntary group ever since and welcome new members.

After two years of campaiging, B&NES council finally announced on 19th July 2017 that they were shelving plans for a park and ride on Bathampton Meadows.

This is clearly great news for the campaign and we welcome the decision. We also welcome the council Leader's statement that the Meadows will not be subject to development for the remainder of this term.

However our campaign will not be over until the land is given greater protection in perpetuity - we cannot go through this as a community every few years. Lasting protection is what we will continue to campaign for alongside an evidence-based approach to transport planning locally and regionally.

Thank you so much for your support.

Dear Meadows Supporter,

Campaign update and party invitation!

We hope that you have seen the news that after two years of campaigning, B&NES council finally announced on 19th July 2017 that they were shelving plans for a park and ride on Bathampton Meadows.

This is clearly great news for the campaign and we welcome the decision. We also welcome the council Leader's statement that the Meadows will not be subject to development for the remainder of this term.

However our campaign will not be over until the land is given greater protection in perpetuity - we cannot go through this process as a community every few years. Lasting protection is what we will continue to campaign for. We are working through what approach would offer the greatest levels of protection - more to come on this as soon as we can including any costs that might be involved to secure it.

In the meantime, we hope that you will join us to celebrate our success so far at a party on 30th September. The party is going to be at the Vine House, which is the home of one of the campaigners with a wonderful view over the Meadows. It's at the top of Bailbrook Lane (directions and address below).

Please come anytime after 7.30. It will be outside so bring wellies as well as a bottle. There'll be fireworks and a campfire and pizzas for sale for £6.50 from Field to Fire. Older children are welcome.

So that we can plan for numbers, please register if you are interested in coming along by visiting https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/ and searching for 'The Meadows Party'.

With thanks again for your support.

Fiona and Sian

Directions: The Vine House Bailbrook Lane Bath BA1 7AB. From Bath, head along the A4 towards Batheaston. Shortly before entering the village, turn left up Bailbrook Lane (it will say the road is closed but it is open for access to houses), bear left at the first fork (where there are new houses on your right) and continue up the lane. At the brow of the hill, there is a farm track to your right. The Vine House is on the right-hand side along the track and the party will be past it at the barn.

Dear Meadows Supporter,

You are cordially invited to an art exhibition and auction in celebration of Bathampton Meadows, the council’s chosen site for its next Park & Ride

Over 20 of Bath’s leading artists have come together to exhibit and auction their work in support of the campaign to save Bathampton Meadows. The meadows are a vital part of Bath’s World Heritage setting, and have inspired generations of artists. We are delighted to invite you to join us to celebrate this beautiful landscape, and to help us to try to save it for the generations to come.

Please join us for the auction at 7.30pm on Friday 16th June at The Function Rooms above Green Park Brasserie, Green Park Station BA1 1JB.

Among those whose work will be on sale are celebrated British landscape painters, Peter Brown and Bob Rudd, award-winning watercolourist, Catherine Beale, and leading contemporary artist, Alison Harper, whose work has been exhibited widely in the UK and abroad.

The art works to be auctioned will be on display at the Green Park Function Rooms from 10am to 5pm on Thursday 15th June and from 11am to 6pm on the day of the auction itself. Entry is free, and there will also be prints for sale of work by Batheaston artist Jane Riley, cartoonist Perry Harris and international photojournalist, Richard Wayman.

The works to be auctioned can also be viewed on the Bathampton Meadows Alliance website http://bathamptonmeadowsalliance.org.uk/ and bids can be placed online.

We do hope however that you will be able to join us on the night. Please RSVP to bmeadowsalliance @gmail.com.

With thanks and best wishes

Sian on behalf of the Bathampton Meadows Alliance

So we now know that B&NES intend to proceed with Site B i.e. New Leaf Farm, but if they cannot get approval for the required access road from Highways England and persuade New Leaf Farm to sell (within a 'reasonable period' thought to be weeks not months), then they will proceed with Site F.

The battle is not over!

Next step is Placemaking - consultation closes Mid Feb.

Please follow www.facebook.com/savebathamptonmeadows and www.bathamptonmeadowsalliance.org.uk for update information.

Thank you for your support!
