Help Alioni Host Anchiskhati Choir!

Donation protected
Founded in 2008, Ensemble Alioni is a 10-member vocal ensemble dedicated to researching and sharing the ancient choral folk music traditions of the Republic of Georgia through teaching and performance.

In late February Alioni has a rare opportunity to host a workshop and concert in Chicago with master Georgian singers Anchiskhati Quartet. Anchiskhati’s music has been praised by the U.S. magazine The World & I as “diamonds polished by time.” We are raising funds to
support the costs of Anchiskhati’s work with us in Chicago.

On Saturday, February 27 at 7:30 pm, Alioni will open a concert by Anchiskhati at St. Josaphat Parish Church (2301 N. Southport Ave.). Members of Anchiskhati will also lead an intensive workshop in Georgian polyphonic singing.

The members of Ensemble Alioni have come to know and love Georgian music through skilled songmasters and teachers in the U.S. and abroad, and we are passionately committed to authenticity in our performances. Therefore, when we have the chance to work directly with a group from Georgia, we treasure the opportunity to improve our cultural understanding of the music and our performance practices for future concerts and recordings for the public.

Please help Ensemble Alioni raise the funds needed to work with this outstanding group! Thank you for helping us bring the timeless beauty of Georgian music–an Intangible Masterpiece of Humanity recognized by the United Nations—to our hometown Chicago.
