Backwell Village NEEDS YOUR HELP!

The JSP proposals would see our lovely village decimated. A single huge housing estate of 700 houses, behind West Leigh Infants and down to Chelvey, increasing Backwell’s population by almost 40%, linked to an already congested A370 by a single access road.
Backwell Lake, with all of its rich and diverse wildlife, would be destroyed by a 4 lane link road and bus route, linking to the Motorway and the proposed 3,200 new houses in Nailsea. Backwell Common and its ancient hedgerow, farmland and wildlife would be irrevocably harmed by a link road cutting through it, emerging next to either Backwell & Flax Cricket Club or opposite Fairfield School onto the A370. A Transport Hub at the Train Station with a multi level Car Park bringing even more cars to our village and the potential closure of Station Road.
The proposals for Backwell will be examined by the Government Inspectors in the upcoming hearings (July and September). Backwell Village has a seat at the table, but who will represent us? We now need the experts, in Planning, Transport, Wildlife & Ecology to attend on our behalf to represent the best interests of our community.
Are we a NIMBY village? Absolutely NOT!! Backwell was amongst one of the first villages in the country to come up with a Neighbourhood Plan ...which today sees 100 new houses agreed and being built in the village, properly planned and proportionate.
The time has now come when we need to raise some funds!
The funds from our Parish Council and Residents Association are not infinite. As a community we need to ensure we have the best possible professional people representing Backwell at those hearings. For those of us who have taken the fight this far, we must now hand over to those experts, but of course it will cost. Backwellians have never been asked to contribute to something like this before but, there again, the village has never faced such a major threat before. PLEASE dig deep, whatever it is you love about our village, take a moment to think about it and what it would be like if it were lost forever.
